Heidelberg University is a research-oriented university with a strong international profile focusing on academic dialogs across subject boundaries. Ranked among the top universities in Germany and Europe, it maintains a network with research and educational institutions around the world. Centers abroad represent the university in specific core regions: The Heidelberg University Office Kyoto has been supporting cooperation with partners in Japan since 2015 and welcomes your inquiries or visits throughout the year.
Qualified international students are welcome to apply for one of over 180 study programs, participate in short-term study opportunities, or benefit from exchange with 15 partners in Japan. The currently about 30,000 enrolled students are also encouraged to engage in extracurricular activities.
Numerous great minds have learned, taught, and researched at Heidelberg University in its long history. The oldest German university therefore has been playing an important part in shaping science and society since its founding in 1386.

Tuition fees

At universities in Baden-Wuerttemberg, including Heidelberg University, there is a tuition fee of EUR 1500 per semester for international students from non-EU (European Union) and non-EEA (European Economic Area - Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway) countries with a foreign university entrance qualification.
All students at Heidelberg University also pay a fee of currently EUR 151,05 per semester. This consists of an administration fee of currently EUR 70 and of social contributions for student services and a support towards bicycle rental and a theater flat rate. The tuition fee as well as the administration fee is waived for participants in exchange programs.
